Les maisons de ville à Londres sont nombreuses, et pour les agrandir, on a souvent recours à une extension sur le jardin arrière, où l'on installe le plus souvent une vaste cuisine, voire une family room. La propriétaire de cette maison est une artiste qui désirait transformer la sienne, qui existait déjà, mais qu'elle ne trouvait ni assez lumineuse, ni assez colorée. La rénovation de la cuisine ouverte a donc été confiée aux professionnels de  Edwards Rensen Architects, pour la rendre plus agréable.

C'est un mélange éclectique de styles qui a été sélectionné pour ce projet. La pièce de départ était située dans une extension mal conçue, construite dans les années 1990. Mais elle était en bon état, et afin de ne pas faire exploser le budget, les architectes chargés de la rénovation de la cuisine ouverte, ont préféré l'améliorer. Ils ont installé une fenêtre neuve et ils ont abattu la cloison qui la séparait de la pièce à vivre, et pour soutenir la structure ont installé des poutres peintes en rose. Les espaces ont été inversés, l'ancienne cuisine qui se trouvait dans l'extension est désormais installée dans l'ancien salon, et la salle à manger dans l'agrandissement sur le jardin. Renovating a kitchen opening onto the garden of a townhouse

There are many townhouses in London, and in order to extend them, they are often extended onto the rear garden, where a vast kitchen or even a family room is usually installed. The owner of this house is an artist who wanted to transform her existing home, which she found neither bright nor colourful enough. The renovation of the open-plan kitchen was therefore entrusted to the professionals at Edwards Rensen Architects, to make it more pleasant.

An eclectic mix of styles was chosen for this project. The original room was located in a poorly designed extension built in the 1990s. But it was in good condition, and in order not to blow the budget, the architects responsible for renovating the open-plan kitchen preferred to improve it. They installed a new window, knocked down the partition separating it from the living room, and installed pink-painted beams to support the structure. The spaces were reversed, with the old kitchen in the extension now installed in the old living room, and the dining room in the extension overlooking the garden. Photo: Adelina Illev
