This home was created from the conversion of an old barn and features 9-meter-high ceilings, raw materials, and solar energy
School Farm Barn was created by converting an old farm barn in the English countryside. It sits in a quiet corner of Warwickshire, England. With its symmetrical silhouette, sleek gabled roof, and large sliding doors, it now surprises with its contemporary look.
The building’s agricultural identity remains clear. The designers did not seek to conceal it. Oak dominates: wide-plank flooring covers the floor. Black steel is also used for many structural elements, such as the stairs, railings, and interior glass walls.
Two fluted light oak islands occupy the center. The white countertops contrast with the wood. On the kitchen side, the floor transitions from oak parquet to light terrazzo: a clear demarcation between the zones. The garden-facing bay window frames the natural pool. You cook with a view of nature.
A large, colorful canvas hangs above a sideboard. It sets the color tone for the entire room. The solid wood table is paired with classic Wishbone chairs in natural ash and transparent Ghost Chairs by Kartell, a mix of generations that works.
Its living room, like all the rooms in this house, is very spacious. Moreover, its ceiling soars nine meters high. The oak staircase with black stringers rises boldly, its painted steel railing forming a graphic diagonal. Above, a cantilevered mezzanine with its black railings comes into view. The sloped ceiling is clad in wood. The living room is furnished with black or white sofas. Despite the room’s height and size, the arrangement of the furniture and the presence of a wood-burning stove make it feel warm and inviting. Two black wall sconces flank the stove like two bodyguards.
